A musical community without barriers! Sign up now

We are excited to announce that the Coventry branch of the Soundabout Inclusive Choir will be holding its second meeting in Coventry this weekend. Everyone is welcome and there will be chance for a cup of tea, some cake and a chat after the music making has finished. Let's help make this special and be a part of something amazing.

This is what one of the parents said about the first Coventry Meeting:

We went to Soundabout's inclusive Choir for the first time last week. My son doesn't always enjoy music as he is very sensory with noises and sounds, but we thought we would give it a go.

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel so welcome. The girls made such an effort to include us all at whatever level we felt comfortable.  My son loved exploring all the different kinds of instruments. Karen and Vicky had such a great way of keeping the children engaged and all joining in with the signing and singing.

When my son had had enough, he went to the corridor and had some time away from the group but it wasn't a problem. Vicky took him an instrument out and had a few minutes of 1:2:1 time with him. It was so lovely to be in an environment where the children were free to express themselves with no judgement, which as a SEN parent is priceless. It was a wonderful morning and I cannot wait for the next session.

The Coventry Soundabout Inclusive Choir welcomes people aged 25 years and under, and their families.

The Choir celebrates that everyone has their own way of sharing their voice. Here are a few examples of ways you could join in:

  • Using Makaton Signing
  • Singing or other vocal noises
  • Making sounds with an instrument or sound maker
  • Using technology e.g. an iPad or EyeGaze
  • Movement and dance

By welcoming all voices we aim to be as inclusive as possible, and actively try to remove barriers to participation from those with severe and profound learning disabilities.

The choir sings songs chosen by members and occasionally writes their own songs. Every piece of music is designed so that members can be involved in their own way.

The choir is free to join, there are no auditions, and you do not need to be able to read music notation.

We are offering a mixture of face-to-face and virtual rehearsals so that you can join in however is best for you! Click here for dates of upcoming rehearsals.
