The String Ensemble have had another fun term of online collaboration and rehearsal, and their latest recording is now ready to share!

We began the term by listening to and reflecting on music written by diverse composers, and the group chose to work on Florence Price’s ‘Juba Dance’, in preparation for when we can meet live again, as well as Coventry-born Delia Derbyshire and Ron Grainger’s Dr Who theme.

The ensemble had a brilliant end-of-term meeting where we all dressed up as Dr Who characters, or brought Dr Who props while we listened to the finished version of the recording (whilst munching our traditional end-of-term doughnuts); cellist Jonathan stole the show with his amazing home-made dalek costume!

Next term, we’re going to be working on some Beatles repertoire, exploring some improvisation with our own arrangement of Somewhere over the Rainbow, and continuing with the Price piece.

We’re always looking for new members, so if you play violin, viola, cello or double bass and you are between grade 2 and grade 6 standard, do get in touch and come and try out a string ensemble rehearsal!
