Four special concerts in a week of Coventry Music Christmas Celebrations

Merry Christmas snowman

Congratulations to each and every performer and all the amazing staff who made the recent concerts such a success.

What a week it has been!

We started with our first christmas concert of 2019 with our Winter Showcase event at Blue Coat School on Tuesday 3rd December. This event was a lovely evening listening to some of our younger and beginner groups showcasing what they had been learning during the autumn term. We were treated to some stunning performances by our Musical Mixtures and Melody Makers Beginner Brass and Wind bands, including two joint pieces, which had not been rehearsed together until the day of the performance. Then we heard two fantastic peices, including a Star Wars medley, from our City Band - our intermediate band; followed by some very christmassy numbers from our guitar group - Fretworks. To finish the show we were treated to a lovely version of "Lord of the Dance" by our special guests the Blue Coat School Concert Band conducted by our very own Mr Mark Allison.

Two nights of rock performances followed, from our bands formed through our very successful Live on Stage: Rock Band Project.
Wednesday night saw many of our prgression bands perform alongside some special guests from Coventry Schools; including Finham Park, Clifford Bridge Primary and a very special performance from Sherbourne Fields. The venue was packed and the bands brought the house down.

Thursday was a chance for our newly formed bands to perform for the first time. Having only formed in September it was fantastic to see them perform with confidence and even sing some original pieces. The two nights ended with a performance from one of our second year bands - Project Overload, who alongside Mugshot - another second year band - hosted the two nights and supported the lighting, sound and tech teams.

The concert series ended with a spectacular, sell-out, traditional Christmas Concert at the Central Methodist Hall. Over 600 people, including prestigious guests, watched over 250 children perform christmas songs, readings and carols as part of a massed choir, a string ensemble and a community Wind Band. It was a magical evening, and we were also able to raise over £700 for our charity The Coventry Music Trust, which will enable more children to access music across the city and for us to provide more events like this for children to perform at and experience music in an inclusive setting.

Thank you to everyone involved. The children for their brilliant performances - you did us all proud; the staff and teachers for making the events happen to such a high standard; and to the parents, friends and other guests who came and watched, as well as all the people who donated to our charity. We couldn't have done it without you.
