Musical School of the Month April 2019 - Why where they chosen?

Why did we choose our musical school of the month for March? Here are some great reasons

Here are some the fantastic musical things that St Osburg's have been doing in their school:

  • At St Osburg’s we have worked really hard over the past 5 years to increase and improve the Music provision for all our pupils.
  • As a Catholic school, music plays an extremely important part in all our worship and religious celebrations. Our children are amazing singers and love to sing their hearts out, not just in our weekly singing practice but during Masses, prayer times, assemblies, Carol concerts, Easter reflections and Nativity plays.
  • We have a fantastic Music specialist teacher for a day a week to teach quality music lessons across the whole school from Nursery to Year 6.
  • Years 3 and 4 access whole class instrumental teaching all year, having ukulele and recorder lessons weekly. Previous year groups have learnt Steel Pans and Brass.
  • We participate in Morning of Music.
  • We have long established successful peripatetic guitar tuition groups.
  • We have a fabulous extra-curricular ‘Pop Choir’ who have performed at UHCW Hospital, the Albany Theatre, for charity fundraising and termly in school. They are a joy to listen to!
  • Our children love to perform and we encourage that by providing lots of opportunities for them: Every year group holds a music sharing assembly for their parents where they can showcase their new skills; Nursery, Reception & Year 1 access a 6 week block ( twice a year) working on a performance linking music, literacy and drama; we hold an annual guitar concert and sing-along, talentshow and our Year 6 class perform a musical every year at Bablake theatre for their Year 6 production – these have included Oliver, The Lion King, Aladdin, Bugsy Malone and Alice in Wonderland.

well done small

We are always looking for more schools that are making an outstanding contribution to music education and delivering excellent opportunities for young musicians.
